A gripping fever which divides the world in a unique way. Humans from across boundaries gather in spirit under a flag foreign to them, yet united through love of a nation deep inside their hearts. Passion for a sport was fired by the boundaries of Lusail Stadium last evening. The reverberating love of 80,000 voices inside and billions across the world united us, made us scream, jump, slump. Most of us skipped many a heartbeat, sat on the edge of our seats, gripped dear life throughout the three hours of frenzy. A mad medley of happy, fear, panic, crazy, excitement jiggled together in a colourful melange. FIFA. An emotion powerful enough to invade our minds and our hearts before our eyes open to the next new morning. Such is the power of true emotions evoked by a game. Time to say bye to Qatar. Hope you had your win 🙂
A fever amongst fellow nationals, a fight between states, a battle of jerseys and of sponsors. The power of a game which unites India as no other. Cricket. In the backdrop of religious disputes, ethical clashes and constant political turbulence, a power strong enough to rise above the might of the gears of political supremacy and religious prowess. Cricket unites India. Against caste and creed, rich and poor. Only the colour of your jersey matters. It defines unity, strategy, team and victory. Cricket is “us”.
In our lifetime, we have seen no other high-pitched emotion as strong as football and cricket. We argue and debate, fight and hug, sing and cry over these games. Our biggest motivation lies in these games more so because they transgress boundaries, ethnicities, races, religion, demographics and economics. Sports is perhaps our biggest motivation to tell ourselves after the fever dies down that we can unite under the most impossible of situations. Only when the fever dies down, tell yourselves “Impossible is nothing”.
So who did you support last evening? Argentina was my team. And my fever is still on.
